Others before me have paid musical tribute to the tragedy of a young lady named Renee (name slightly altered for privacy). Confined in a psychiatric facility, she was once an aspiring young career woman with many talents and a rosy future. Educated at the best schools, she is intelligent and eloquent - except that she is also quite mad.

As an adolescent, she was held down and given a nearly lethal overdose of a street drug called "Spike" in the States. Her boyfriend, who did it to her, then committed suicide. She was found deep in coma by his body, so they tell me. From that day on she went years without speaking, clutching a tattered Bible to her. Doctors did their level best, as her heartbroken parents strove to get her help.

Today, she speaks, occasionally trying to behave like the carefree teen she once was. She still keeps that Bible with her night and day, often weeping in fervid prayer. I have tried to capture the tides of her tormented emotions herein.
